The Opposite View of a Great Interview
Interviews can be terrifying and nerve-racking, but it doesn’t have to be if you are prepared! As a recruiter, I’ve had many experiences in interviews, where interviewees have completely impressed me and others… well let’s just say things could have gone better. Nevertheless, I have been on the other side of the table, and I completely understand the immense emotions that can occur during the interview process. Here are some pointers on what personally stands out to me when I interview candidates.
Statistics show that first impressions are made within the first 7 seconds we meet, therefore dressing to impress is substantial. Someone who is dressed business casual or business professional is highly appreciated. You DO NOT want to look like you threw something on to make it through the day.
From the moment we meet, your confidence should shine through! I understand that for many, nerves can get the best of you, and trust me, I’ve been there too…BUT the more you practice SHOWING confidence, the easier it is to BECOME confident! A few things that take part into showing confidence is posture, eye contact, and tone of voice. Try role playing with friends and/or family members if this is an area that needs work. Additionally, you want to give a firm handshake while introducing yourself to your interviewer.
YIKES! It is now time for the interview. A good method to help prepare is to search online prior to coming in and rehearsing a few of the most asked interview questions. Having answers in mind, would not only show the interviewer that you are prepared, but it alleviates a few of those nerves that you feel in the process. You want to let your personality outshine, however make sure to have a good balance of friendliness and professionalism. You want to show that you are people oriented while keeping in mind that this is not your best friend.
In conclusion, look presentable and be confident. Show the greatness you have within!
